Places to Celebrate in and Around Filey

We are often asked for our local recommendations, especially if you are celebrating a special anniversary, birthday, or occasion. We thought we’d share what we’ve done ourselves and what our guests have done to mark their family and friends’ events.
We’ve created several celebration packages for our guests, tailored to their specific events and requirements. These are lovely to do and give your guests the wow factor when they walk into the property. I always enjoy doing these, especially a recent 60th wedding anniversary for a couple who met at the old Butlins’ site, which is now The Bay! In terms of venues, here are some local places that can be easily reached from The Bay and within range for the local taxis if needed.
Bella Italia – What can we say about this place? We’ve run out of superlatives to describe just how exceptional the service and food are here, at this family-run restaurant. The food is authentic, and the menu is quite extensive. We’ve had many family gatherings in this lovely family-run restaurant; the only downside is that it is extremely popular and not the largest venue, so book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Banks Wine Bar – This venue was once the Yorkshire Bank in Filey. Many of the original features have been retained, making this a unique experience that differs from other venues in town. Please be aware that this venue doesn’t serve food, but it more than makes up for that in terms of the range of spirits and cocktails on offer. The settings are opulent with an Art Deco feel, and every type of event is catered for. They also offer cocktail masterclasses, but you would need to book these in advance. Well worth a visit, especially if you are celebrating.
San Marcos – It is an Italian restaurant in the middle of Filey, with a good reputation. It can accommodate more guests than Bella Italia if you are looking for a larger group to accommodate. They also have a regular happy hour, but please check to ensure it coincides with your stay. Really good for family gatherings and party experiences!
The White Lodge – Set high on the crescent overlooking Filey Bay, this beautiful hotel, formerly a grand Victorian Villa, boasts 21 en-suite rooms, most with sea views. The outdoor grounds are extremely picturesque with a bespoke Citroen Bar Van in the grounds, so that you can make the most of the spectacular vistas on a sunny day. There are many dining options if you require something more formal for you and your guests.
The Farrier – Did you know that the village of Cayton, where this restaurant is located, was mentioned in the Domesday Book and dates to at least 1066? Either way, it has an excellent reputation for food and accommodation with both locals and tourists. The Farrier boasts a superb restaurant, coffee house, cocktail lounge, residential rooms and a venue for private functions.
Wrangham House Hotel, Hunmanby – A grade II listed Georgian property, in the pretty village of Hunmanby, just a couple of miles from The Bay. The tea rooms are situated in the main house and overlook the gardens. Afternoon tea is offered if you want something a little special, but you need to give at least 24 hours’ notice.
Lazer Taxis – Once the celebrations are over, a smooth lift home may be needed. We always use Lazer Taxis, and they are extremely reliable.
